Our Origins

Established in 1998, Dreadsock® was developed out of necessity for a product line to service the locked and natural hair communities.
I began my journey in 1998, long before locks/dreads had become the movement it is today. Against the wishes of my family and many friends, I embraced the commitment to lock my hair and have never looked back.
 
I expressed to my then loctician that I never wanted to lose a job over my hair and was determined to dispel myths about the hairstyle. Public opinion was harsh and consistent. It was many times I wanted to just cut them and walk away from the journey.
 
I was given the advice to cover them during sleep, work, play or any other times where protection would be critical. This advice would become the catalyst to search for protection unique to my specific needs.
 
There was nothing on the market, including throughout the world for what I wanted and needed so I designed my own.
 
Through many trial and errors my mother put her sewing skills to work and together we created the original design that is now Dreadsock®!!
 
Finally, with the help of an amazing legal team and dedicated assistance from mentors along the way, Dreadsock® was launched. Since 2004, Dreadsock® has slowly but surely grown to be the name brand associated with quality hair apparel for the lock and natural hair community.
 
With a worldwide customer base Dreadsock® has been protecting hair for nearly 20 years and will be launching many more products in years to come.
